Description

Everyone has earwax. It is a normal function of your ears to “self-clean”, and earwax is a part of this process. However, some people produce excess earwax or can suffer from a build-up of earwax, and this can cause a number of issues if not dealt with. Having “impacted” earwax is common, especially in older adults, as wax becomes harder as we age.

How does Ear Irrigation work?

Ear irrigation involves using a flow of low-pressure water via a specialised ear irrigator to harmlessly remove the earwax blockage. The process is quick and completely painless. We can perform the irrigation on one or both ears during the same session.

Please Note

Earwax must be prepared by softening it with ear drops for a minimum of 4-5 days beforehand. The treatment cannot take place if the wax is not softened prior to your appointment, and we may not be able to complete the procedure on the day following your full medical ear health check. If the earwax is not soft enough for treatment, the clinician will advise you whether to purchase and/or continue with ear drops for a period of time and will then manually schedule an appointment for treatment.

All clients must be aged 18+ for ear irrigation.

Yes, the procedure is safe if performed by a trained practitioner.

Dizziness or faintness can occur if the water used is not at body temperature and normally passes very quickly.

This can occur in people who have eczema or a history of regular ear infections, if this occurs, it is usually in the outer ear canal (Otitis externa).

Very rarely a temporary or permanent loss of hearing may occur, and tinnitus (ringing type noise inside the ear) can worsen if already experienced.
